£1000 bonus
Employers will receive a one-off bonus of £1000 for every employee that it brings back from furlough and continues to remain in the business until the end of January 2021. Employees must earn at least the national insurance lower earnings limit between November and January 2020. This currently stands at £520 per month. Chancellor of the exchequer, Rishi Sunak, said “We will continue to help businesses and protect millions of jobs until the end of October, and our additional £1,000 job retention bonus will ensure this support continues as our economy reopens and people return to work.”
Although the CJRS cut-off date was 10th June, any employees who are returning from military service or paternity leave and who are eligible for the bonus can still be claimed for. This also applies to any employees that have been transferred from another company under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations, as long as they meet the outlined criteria given above.
Furlough Scheme
The Furlough Scheme – whereby the government pay 80% of an employee’s salary up to £2,500 will remain in place until the end of October 2020. However, there are some changes to this which came into effect on 1st August. From this date, businesses will have to pay employee’s national insurance and pension contributions for the hours that the employee is on furlough.
